Freshwater Fluxes into the World’s Oceans

The Global Runoff Data Centre (GRDC) has published the Freshwater Fluxes into the World’s Oceans since 1995. Since 2009 the computations are based on model results of the continuously developed water balance model WaterGAP (Hydrology Group, University of Frankfurt). The most recent calculation was made in December 2020 and covers the period 1901-2016. A new web application was created for the provision of the data, which also includes the data calculated in 2004, 2009 and 2014 for archival purposes.

For the analysis, the raw data available on a 0.5°x0.5° grid were converted to annual average values for continents and oceans, 5° and 10° bands as well as for the regions defined by Global International Waters Assessment (GIWA). The data are presented both in a map and in the tabular structure.
