The SWOT (Surface Water and Ocean Topography) Science Team Meeting took place from 14–17 October 2025 in Arcachon, France. Its central aim was to bring together oceanographers, hydrologists, cryosphere scientists, and the broader user community to highlight recent scientific advances made possible by the SWOT mission. This was the first SWOT conference open to the wider scientific community. Until now, only meetings involving the internal science team have taken place. Here in Arcachon, around 450 participants, consisting of the core science team and scientists working with SWOT data were present, including early career scientists
Simon Mischel from GRDC participated in the conference with the poster contribution “SWOT meets GRDC: Assigning SWORD nodes to in situ stations from the Global Runoff Data Centre” in the session “Hydrology: HR SWOT Data (Data Validation & Enhancement). The poster originates from the ongoing collaboration of GRDC with the University of Stuttgart and presents the approach to assign SWORD nodes with GRDC gauging stations. This product will be vital for the combination of both datasets and to calibrate the output of the SWOT satellite mission.
The contribution was very well received and the conference was a good opportunity to make and maintain contacts with colleagues from the remote sensing community.
